Redact PDF
Permanently delete words and phrases from the file, not just cover them.
Free, no sign-up. It runs inside your browser: your files never leave your device.
Redact a PDF to remove names, numbers and other sensitive details for good. The text under each box is deleted from the file, not just covered, so it cannot be copied or searched.
How to use Redact PDF
- Drop a PDF on the page.
- Type words or phrases to find, one per line, and pick what else to find: Email, Phone, Card number, Aadhaar, PAN, GSTIN, IFSC, UPI ID or US SSN.
- Check the matches on the page. Click a match to keep it, and drag boxes over anything else, like a photo or a signature.
- Pick a black or white box, then click "Redact".
Questions
Is the text really removed?
Yes. Text under every box is deleted from the file, not just covered. Pictures under a box have those pixels overwritten.
Can I redact a scanned PDF?
Scanned pages have no text to search. Draw boxes over the parts to hide instead.
Will random numbers be caught as card numbers?
No. Card numbers are checked with the Luhn sum and Aadhaar numbers with the Verhoeff digit, so random digits are not caught.
Is my document uploaded for redaction?
No. Redaction runs on your device, so the private details never leave it.
