Questions

Will the quality drop?

Text and drawings stay sharp. Only pictures change: Light keeps them up to 180 dpi, Balanced up to 150 dpi and Strong up to 72 dpi. With Custom you set the sharpness and quality yourself.

Can I make a PDF smaller than a set size, like 2 MB?

Yes. Choose "File size" and pick the limit, or Other to type your own. The tool looks for the gentlest setting that fits.

What if my file does not get smaller?

Some PDFs are already as small as they can be. If a file cannot get smaller, you get it back unchanged.

Is it safe to compress private documents?

Yes. The file is compressed in your browser and is never uploaded.
