Split by bookmarks
Turn each chapter or bookmark into its own file.
Free, no sign-up. It runs inside your browser: your files never leave your device.
Split a PDF by its bookmarks, so each chapter or section becomes its own file. It suits books, manuals and reports that have bookmarks in the sidebar.
How to use Split by bookmarks
- Drop a PDF that has bookmarks.
- Under "Split at", choose Chapters, Sections or 3 levels.
- In the list of parts, pick the ones you want.
- Turn on "Put the picked parts in one file" if you want them together, and choose whether to keep the bookmarks inside each part.
- Click "Split by bookmarks".
Questions
What is the difference between Chapters and Sections?
Chapters makes one file for each top-level bookmark. Sections also makes files from bookmarks one level down. 3 levels goes down to the third level.
Can I pull out only a few chapters?
Yes. Pick only those parts in the list. Turn on "Put the picked parts in one file" to get them as a single PDF.
Will each part keep its bookmarks?
Yes, when "Keep the bookmarks inside each part" is on. A chapter file then keeps its own sections as bookmarks.
